This is probably as far from a Cub Cadet as you can get and still stay inside the realm of GT's but I went to an auction last weekend and just had to have it! It does however have 4 Cub Cadet Rims a buddy an I installed last night.
This is a Hesston model 140 Front Runner. It is supposed to have a deck out front with hyd lift but this deck is long gone. The coil is bad on the 16 hp Briggs single cylinder but that is getting fixed by Tuesday when the parts come in. It is front wheel drive with a Sundstrand hyd pump running off of the engine. The pump goes to the Dana front axle or rear end, how ever you prefer. The paint is very badly faded but i havent found a single dent anywhere. Going to be a fun fixer upper. It articulates in the middle like a wheel loader and has mechanical steering. The bed has a tailgate but does not dump. It was designed to be just a trailer that was always attached and or it could hold the leaf vac. Pretty neat piece going into the collection. If anyone has any other info, I would really appreciate it. This is a 1971 model made by Hesston in Hesston KS. The design was bought out by Toro a few years later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice Score David!
Too bad it didn't include a pair o' those sparky plaid bell-bottoms that fella's wearing on the cover of the manual! Are you going to try and find a deck for it or just use it as a "mule"? |

HAHA i have shown that pic of the manual to tons of people, and i think you and I are the only ones to comment on those hot and stylish pants.
![]() Finding a mowing deck for one, i think, will be like finding a hens tooth or trying to buy sailboat fuel. I def have my eye out, but for now, just a mule. I plan on fixing it up nicely though to take to and ride around tractor shows

Nice looking mill, that vice looks HUGE! What is that about a 10 or 12 inch throat?
How does the front and back hook together on the 140 Front Runner?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
