I have a 149 with a manual pto clutch. The button tore off and chewed up the ears and the disc is rough. Had to put the plow on now
I was searching around at rebuild kits. They are 60 bucks plus I need other parts for it too. How much trouble would it be to put a newer style electric clutch on it? Or is this not possible? Are the bearings the same etc... Thanks!

Can't be done that way. Only way to incorporate an electric PTO is to install an AQS engine from the QL series. I have both a 1250 and a 128. I am in the process of completely rebuilding my PTO for the 128 myself and it isn't cheap to fix, but in my opinion the manual PTO's are much better than the electric units.

There are two basic obstacles to overcome.
(A) Is the block on your K-321 Kohler Motor drilled and tapped to mount an Elec PTO...?? Most are not.. (B) You will have to make some modifications in the Electrical Wiring to make it work.

Don't complain about $60...not only is it still available, it'll last another 30 years. Have you priced any replacement parts for an electric PTO clutch? A LOT more than $60...

Thanks guys! I was just checking to see if it were an option. I just rebuilt the K321 and boy is she STRONG now! Burned about 1/4qt an hour before... I found a guy with a rebuilt like new PTO for 75 bucks and it comes with a used but good collar and bearing. Then I can rebuild mine and put it on the shelf for the future...

An electric PTO won't work with a S/G either.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
