WOW, left at 10am and just got back from my trip to western NY to pick up Original #3

. What a sweet deal I got on this bad boy, frame,seat and the seat/fender pan have no cracks or have been repaired. Missing the IH emblem. The tranny and creeper are nice and tight,no play at all, same can't be said for the steering though. Original paint which brings me to the engine, see in pics that it's Blue?! It's a k161 and po said it was correct replacement engine, didn't come with oil bath air cleaner, but I have one for it. No choke hooked up and they bypassed the govener with a straight shot of cable to carb, but she does run very nicely! Anyone know what is up with the blue paint as it looks oem to the engine?? The only major issue I have is po drilled a hole in the hood for a headlight, will have to fix that. I'm so tired and Stoked, let it snow, let it snow, let it Snow

You fearless Cubnut! I bet you drove through the snow to get it! Let me guess...you never leave home without your snow board? Sweet find but the blue paint on the replacement engine has me puzzled too...never seen that before. Glad you home safe and sound Jude!

Nice haul! She looks very nice, how far into NY did you have to go?

I just researched the spec no. from your pic on the Kohler parts lookup, and it is listed as "basic' which would presume it was a universal replacement engine. This and the configuration of the muffler would indicate a multiple use engine. I didn't go any further with the serial number to decode a possible date range, but paint it up yellow and no-one would know but you

I like Kohler's "newer" parts look up program, much easier to navigate than their older system.

Looks great Jude, I don't remember the motor being blue in the pictrure's from CL. I would say the same thing just give her a coat of yellow and change out the little things and no one will ever know. That's is a very nice machine, Ya done good on that one, congrats. Does he have another one he's selling? I think I saw a listing from the same guy for a different original. Also did you get the weights while you were there? I would have liked to have the 6-12 ags he had listed with it. I just got rid of a column this week but I do have another one here if you need it. It's very tight and in good shape.

Kevin, Thanks buddy, usually always have the snowboard in my car, but took the dogs with me and hooked up the car for them. The start of my trip was sketchy, helped out some guy who ran off the road and then on the way home some black ice on the road near home and nearly slid off the road a couple times

Jeff, I went to Canastota,NY to get it, mapquest said 5.5 hours each way but with weather and pulling a trailer with tractor home took a little patience and time. Thanks bud for doing the research on the k161

Eric, thanks fellow cubnut! Ya, the CL pics didn't do it much justice, he was supposed to send me a vid of it, but never got it. Took the chance on it and made the drive without knowing for sure the exact condition, but I definitely lucked out! I got him to cut $100 off the price too

. I was going to try to get the ags/weights but he is using them on his powerking gt, the rear cub wheels are the same size as the powerking's front. He(gary) was a very nice guy and no he has no more cubs for sale, but if he comes across any sweet finds he said he'll call me. When I get the column apart I'll let ya know if I could use another one, thanks Eric!

Can't tell ya guys how happy I am to get this O', he was on the verge of parting it out

Congrats on the new O. The engine might be from an old Sears Suburban. I believe some of them were that shade of blue.

Ya, I've seen an old k301 that was NOS and was that color, if I remember right, the price on that sucker was like $2,000 if not more

Thanks red56turbo! It does feel so nice coming into the home stretch with a "new" cub. Will be taking a trip down to NC to see Duke in April and plan on coming home with a couple "new" cubs, & a DANCO FEL
