CC 1541 Starting Issues
Hi All-
I have a 1541. About a month ago I got it running. After about three minutes running it started to bog down then stopped. When I try to start it now I get three dash lights. Those are: Low Oil, Battery and Disengage PTO. When I flip the PTO switch, I hear a click like engaging, but the engine will not turn over at all. I replaced the switch, oil, filter, fuse and still nothing. I bridges the solenoid and have good spark. I am about out of ideas and could use some advice Thanks |

Battery dead? Check all connections, you have to be sitting on the tractor, to start it.

Hi There
Brand new battery. Dashboard lights up. When I sit on the tractor it does not start. I switch the PTO switch back and forth, hear a klank and engine itself doesn’t even attempt to turn over. |

In order for the Starter Solenoid to engage, to roll over the engine, (A) the PTO Switch has to be in the "off" position, and (B), the Brake Pedal has to be depressed.
Now either switch could be bad, or a wire connection to either switch. AS A TEST...... Run a Jumper Wire from the Brake Switch wire RED/BLK to the small (RED) terminal on the Starter Solenoid. Turn the Ignition Switch to start, does the engine roll over ??

1541 Update
So I replaced the ignition switch and now the lights work. When I now use the ignition switch, there is a clicking in the reverse relay switch. What would cause this switch to click? Engine still will not turn over.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
