I bought a spare engine that came off a 149. It had not been run in a while. It Had a Walbro 60 carburetor.Of course it did not run right. It would only run with the choke nearly closed, like it was starving for fuel.I disassembled it and soaked it in carb cleaner, but it did not help. So,I gave up on the Walbro.I got a Carter Kohler #30 carb from Ray (Thanks,Ray) and the engine runs and starts great now. I was just thinking,if I could somehow get that Walro carb to work, then I would have a spare.Has anyone had any luck bringing a Walbro back to life? Or am I just dreaming?
Thanks.Tim

Walbro's are excellent paper weights.

Make sure the main fuel inlet needle that goes from the fuel bowl to the middle of the carb is clear. A small pin for fabric works well for clearing them

Thomas, I don't understand what you mean. When I look into the center of the part that protrudes down into the bowl, I see the end of the needle sticking out. Since this is a Walbro, I don't know if it is possible to remove that needle/jet.

IIRC, all the Kohlers for Cub Cadet, in that series, had the adjustable Kohler (Carter) Carbs on them,

never had a walbro carb on anything, but from what I've heard, it's best to avoid them like the plague.

if there is what looks like a screw on the top of the carb it is the fuel inlet needle and that is removable just get your self a rebid kit for it

I still say 'not worth it'.
The plastic floats get eaten by all the crap in today's gas, and the rebuild kit is pretty expensive for what you get (but still not quite as bad as for a Command single...). The 'adjustable' ones aren't really all that adjustable, and the non adjustable ones are always either too rich or too lean. |

The best luck I've had with the Walbro's is seeing how far I can throw them.
![]() All kidding aside, it's truly your choice to try to "rebuild" it, but IMHO, not worth trying.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
