Please comment on the practical differences between a K301AQS and a KT17.
This may seem like a silly request. But, has anyone been able to compare first hand the practical effect between the 12hp single and the 17hp twin (tilling, climbing, pulling logs, mowing)? I have a 682 with a well worn KT17 type I and I also have a K301AQS that would be cheaper to put back in operating condition than replacing the KT17 with a similar hp engine. It appears to be quite a downgrade but I have no way of determining the relative practical differences. I understand the vibration difference but not the power to the ground differences. Thanks for your help. |

Well..... we used to run a 782 and a 71 (we put a 10hp in it) .... There is 5hp difference between the motors you listed....... How do you think it will be different? 5HP is a lot!

The 17 is obvious ly going to strain less when doing the work. But with that in mind my 124 can and has done everything my old 782 did. Also the 12 uses less fuel

The main difference not considering HP differences, is that the twin cylinder motors run so much more smoother and quieter.

a good 14 and a good KT17 are about straight up in my book. the KT is smoother, I think the singles have a wider more usable torque band than a twin .personally if your thinking repower I'd grab a 18 v twin.

I have a 126, 127 and 782 and will lend my opinion. If all your doing is cutting grass on a “normal” yard then the 12 hp enough will be more than enough. My 126 and 127 have to work hard to cut grass while climbing the hill in my back yard which is around 28 degrees at the steepest part. The 782 walks up it without any hint of straining. I haven’t had the pleasure of using a snow thrower with the 782, but my 126 ran it with some straining but no problems. I would imagine the 782 wouldn’t break a sweet running it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
