Default This just popped up for sale.

Says it need a starter/generator. How could one tell if it ran?

Also says it's a 1960 model. Wouldn't that be 61?

Take S/G with you when you go to look (pull a good one from one of your running cubs)... Ask if you can mount it to test. If he won't then there is more to the story.

I would ask them how they determined the model year.

If you're interested in it, find out what "needs a S/G means". Could be that it doesn't/won't charge but will start the engine.

If they aren't asking very much for it, then (I think) it's ok to buy a "pig in a poke" if they are asking a higher price then I won't buy it without hearing it run.

Worst case, take a hot battery/battery pack, some gasoline in a squirt type oil can, and a known good S/G with you when you go to look at it. You can't very well buy a tractor without hearing it run...

Asking $525

I haven't seen an original for sale around here before. It looks really nice and original. I wonder if it has been restored in the past? I can get the starter/generator rebuilt locally.

I like it with the fenders.

Its a good possibility that its a early one I'm not seeing a creeper hole. Imho I would take the chance but I have a soft spot for originals

I looks clean... deck and tires look good too. This this has spent a lot of time in doors. If it's had a resto it was a long time ago. Worst cass rebuild engine and S/G $$ if fits your budget.

Ask if he has had any tractors between the two in the picture. If no, good bet it good to go.

Good luck

Didn't real early ones have no drain hole in seat? Maybe seat got trplaced you never know. But also mention of it being early with missing frame cutout? Hope the O masters will chime in. I like it

Going to check it out on Sat. If OK it will be coming home with me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
