i have two compact trucks, a 95 dakota sport and a 86 toyota pickup.
gettin tired of loading cubs in the back of a pickup and having to take the decks off for them to fit on the back. i have a early 90's popup camper that needs too much work to camp in, i want to make a trailer out of it but my engineer friend that helps me out alot is saying it's too light duty and i should buy a small single axle trailer from tsc or home depot. the camper has the same 12" tires on it as the $599.00 5x8 trailer from tsc......anyone have a trailer made from an old camper? call me frugal lol.

Something to consider with a home built trailer is the potential liability should something fail and you cause damage or injury to someone else let alone trashing whatever you are hauling. Most of those pop up trailers are pretty weak when it comes to the frames. Just my 2 cents.

I'v seen a lot of trailers made out of old campers. I think with the correct x bracing. But by the time you send to buy plywood(marine grade or pressure treated) and steel, tires hubs what ever for the extra few hundred it might be worth buying new.
Also i think the tires will above the floor meaning you'll have to bump up the wheel wells. If you have time and looking for a project go for it. I'm always up for a challenge. |

I have seen some nice little trailers built out of campers . If you have the ablity to do the fab work a camper frame would be as good as some of the cheap trailers I see at northern tool. My truck liability insurance covers the damage the trailer would do if it came lose and I carry insurace on all my cubs for $60.00 a year . That is in Iowa anyway .

I have made a utility trailer out of an ole pop-up. It is certainly beefy enough to haul a Cub. However, I use mine just around the yard. I did add some bracing because I cut the original frame to down size the deck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
