Default Has anyone ever repowered a 982

NEW to this Site and I like what's here... Great info and conversations
I was wondering if anyone has repowered a 982 with a Kubota diesel, I'm on my second Onan engine and thought I'd try something else

own 2 Kubota's as well, so same fuel would nice

Welcome to OCC. People have talked about putting diesel's in tractors that were gas but I'm not sure I have seen one done yet. I don't see why it can't be done, you'll have to move some things around to get it to fit. I still think it's gonna get expensive to do. Have you ever thought about dropping a Vanguard or Kohler Command in it? What engine do you have to drop in there? The Cub diesels used the Kubota D600 & D640's.

Thanks to both of you for your replies, and yes, I agree, this is a very good Site filled with like minded people...
I have replaced the B48G Onan once, nice easy job, the 982 is a well engineered tractor,
I still have the original engine, in fact it is perfectly fine... Someone ran it out of gas and filled the tank with diesel , and of course I never checked the tank, figured the poor old thing was done.... So after lots of searching, I found a good one and did the switch... Live and learn
My son, the diesel fuel guy, is repainting the 982 this winter, let will post a few pictures when done...

This looks very interesting Sam, China made no doubt, but for only 2k, not a bad deal. I would really like to get my hands on a Kubota though, I will keep looking...

Think you are right about the pull start. They must have done away with it, pretty sure they used to have a pull start on them. That site has more info than the one I posted also found a vid of one in a motorcycle that had the fan cover off. It looks like pretty much the same style flywheel as a Vanguard or Kohler so it should be easy to make an adapter. Got a crappy pic of it using my camera.

Yep most of the Vanguards have a 1" shaft so that should not be an issue.

1 7/16 is what the JD guys use....Mine on the 1872 (mag 18) is 1 1/8th...

Just throw a Kohler Command 20hp in it and you would be good to go....

I've done JD 318's and 420 repower going from CC to JD powerplants so I dont see where putting one in a 982 would be in the arena as building a rocketship.

Go on CL and find a good 2000 series CC and take it from there.

Recoup the monies from the deck and other attachments to pay for the engine.
