Spent this weekend helping my dad pick ear corn and took some pictures to share. We pick most with the pull type picker but still do a few loads with the old M and mounted picker. Didn't get any picture of it in action but attached one from the parade this year. Enjoy.

Nothing wrong with picking corn! You feed it to cattle?
I see a 340 running the elevator.

You guys going to PICK all of that?
Dang that's going to take a while. Very nice equip. you have there. I never had the luxury of a dump wagon, we had to shovel it out of the wagon. I noticed there was practically no shucks on the corn going in the bins, impressive. I've got a ancient Dearborn picker, it never would get that many shucks off. What year is the H, looks like it has cut-off rear steel on it.

Very cool pictures.
![]() I spent many a day hauling in with the Super C and gravity boxes. As John said, clean cobs, impressive. We used to stand next to the elevator grabbing the "dirty" ones and pulling the husks off... Oh the memories.

Cool pics! I drove by a farm yesterday that had a mounted and pull type picker harvesting corn too. They have cows so it all goes for feed. I also have a friend that hobby farms and he uses a New Idea pull behind with a 1750 Oliver.

Oh that brings back memories. Spent many a day and after school getting all we could in the cribs from a New Idea two row pull type. Never failed to rain so the unloading area would turn into a mess.
Speaking of doing it the hard way, I noticed a hand crank on the front of the Farmall pulling the wagon! ![]() ![]()

I picked ear corn for over 35 years, and ground it for the cattle.
I stopped maybe 8-9 years ago after retirement, when I sold the last cow. ![]() Sure miss those cows, calving in the spring. I used a 101 J deere semi mounted picker, then stepped up to a new idea #10. usually dedicated 10-12 acres for ear picking. I liked to use my 70 Deere diesel for picking and the IH 400 for running wagons back to the crib. Dam I miss those cows, but not the work, You can't hire a "cattle sitter" for vacations. It is said some husks left on ear helps wick off the moisture. The deere 101 didn't get the ears as husk free as the new idea does with the larger husking bed. But I never had a moisture problem with husks remaining on the ear. |

Nice pictures.
If your H is like mine, the recharging system is shot, so have to use a crank to start it. With a good magneto, that's all I need. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
