Just guessing, but the Cub cadets parts link that I gave in a post above shows two diagrams, one is for s/n 70000 and below, the other is for s/n 70001 and up. I'd think 70000 & lower is IH.

But that being said, the easiest way to figure it out is that the 70000 and below system uses two belts, 70001 and up uses only one belt. You can get under there and look (or feel). Another clue is that the transmission pulley on the 70000 and below mounts vertically (side of transmission), 70001 and up mounts horizontally (on top of transmission)

The second drawing (70001 and up) is the system used on most recent currently MTD produced lawn tractors.

Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
