Default Hey! Look what I found!

I found a 1650 sitting in the bushes at a house I recently bought in Stafford, Virginia. I have never owned a garden tractor before and didn't know the first thing about them, but I have always loved taking things that don't work anymore and fixing them.

I did a little Google research and found that what I have here is a pretty stout little tractor. So, I pulled her out of the bushes and cleaned her off a bit. She's in pretty tough shape, but after a little piddling around I got her started and she runs like a top. Haven't tried the hydro yet. Turns out the reason it got relegated to the bushes is because the former owner let the front axle pivot pin slip out of the rear socket, allowing the axle to rotate, tearing the front socket right out of the frame. So the tractor was just pulled off in the bushes and never looked at again for who knows how long. Good part is that it wasn't left there due to a bad motor or trans!

I'm looking forward to getting it back up and runnning. Meanwhile I bought a 15 year-old Lowes/MTD lawn tractor to handle the big yard while I get the CC working. But once my 1650 is going again, the Lowes gets sold to pay at least part of the bill!

I was happy to find this forum. I also became a member of another forum, but this one is a lot easier to navigate to information I need. I look forward to the help, knowledge, and advice from you all, and hope I can help others with what I learn.

Oops. Pics are on my other computer. I'll post some later.

Tony

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
