Starting to fix up my model 71 cub cadet.
this tractor has sentimental value to me, my pop pop bought it new in 1966 i think......i cannot locate the serial number, there is no stamping on the side of the case where the serial is on my 100 and no tag on the rear like my 72 and 123, no flat spot there or rivet holes. anyway my pop pop gave me this tractor around 1985, he got a new wheel horse cause the cub cadet kept blowing head gaskets and at the time a new k181 installed was close to 800 bucks. my dad and i picked up a used k161 for it and had the engine replaced, unfortunately the usd engine was from an original cub cadet and the frame was cut to fit the oil drain. that engine threw a rod winter of 93......summer 94 i picked up a parts engine but never got the time to mess with it.......worked 2 jobs most of the 90's, my son came along in 96. about 3 yrs ago my dad asked me to remove all the old cub cadets so i brought them here. this yr i have time to mess with them since i am recovering from a series of surgeries. they have been great therapy, gaining my strength back fixing and riding the cubs. here is my plan: engine: k301 out of my cub cadet 127.....appears non original to the 127, block has a provision for a dipstick tube on the starter generator side, there is a steel block off plate there, engine has not run since around 1990, trying to get it to fire, might need rebuilt. 3 point hitch and 2000 lb atv winch. seat, got a black vinyl padded pan seat for around 25 shipped new throttle cable......thanks sam! new choke cable for a 2000 series tractor (11 bucks vs 40) used steering tower that i found on ebay 42" deck that came with my new to me 1450, have new belts and a pto bearing and new pullies for the mule drive.....still need a pto kit. going to have to rebuild the original clutch, the disc is falling apart new shift knob and more stuff i probably forgot and stuff i still need the rear tires are blown out, i want to go larger........23x8.5x12 or 23x10.5x12 is the question tho, need some input, i can get either size tires and wheels at a very reasonable price from rweaver. anyone have pics of 10.5's on a short tunnel narrow frame tractor? i need a front panel and a grille, mine is rotted real bad from laying outside for 20 yrs. also need a steering wheel ok here are the before pics. Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
