I can't answer about the price difference, but I can tell you, as a Diesel tech, that Diesels generally make significantly more torque than a gasoline engine at the same rated horsepower, make peak power at lower rpm, and (all things being equal) tend to last longer before needing overhauled. My experience is primarily in the automotive and trucking industry, but it's the same fuel and same principles so I would expect it to be true for agriculture also. If you get a Diesel, maintain your coolant pH levels. Read that last sentence twice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
