Default Finally!! A 582!!

Well, when I decided (about the time that I joined this forum) that I wanted to increase my cub cadet fleet, I wanted a 582. (Or an 1806) Couldn't seem to find one. Well, actually I've wanted one since I was younger. We had a 782 and a 71 growing up, and I always thought that the 582 (a mix of both tractors) would be cool. So, after buying all I have in the last few months, I splurged again. I paid a little more than I normally do, and it needs some work (surprise, surprise) but I think I can handle it. Carb issues and some locked up steering components. Overall, I'd rate the tractor about a 6 maybe a 7, on a 1-10 scale. Missing the side panels and needs a seat, or I'd give it an 8. (I'll be needing a set of side panels. Can't stand it!) This is to be my work tractor. Current plans are, deck is coming off, AG's on the back, tri-ribs on the front. Sleeve hitch (for now, Cat 0 later). Fix the motor and run it. A 582 was my "holy grail" tractor because I wanted to build a gear drive "worker", and with that frame I can put ANY engine IH or CC ever used in that frame...... especially a D600/D640 Kubota! (Just have to find one.) She's a dirty pig, and going to get a bath tomorrow. Shows about 200 hrs on the clock, but I'd say it's really about 800. Doesn't seem to have been well used, just not really well maintained. Got a pretty decent 44" deck. That was a bonus! Needs some of the dents beat out of it. Honestly I don't understand what people run into with these things to beat the front edge of the deck in so much. It's an EARLY MTD tractor SN#708091, which makes it an '81. This brings the fleet to 10!

Without further ado, the obligatory pics:

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
