I'd fix the lights, roll with no plates, and take your trailer paperwork with you and hope you have an understanding cop *IF* you get popped. Take back roads and you shouldn't have any hassle at all.
From experience in Indiana with a "lost title" (not lost, but the PO screwed it up so bad that's what I had to do) it took about 4 months and $70 of registered letters to get a title and plate for a car I once bought. It was a huge PITA. I'd sell the trailer and skip the money/hassle. --------- To answer what you asked, I seriously doubt it will fit sideways without damaging your truck, or paining your rump, in ways that would quickly make it not worth it. A WF fits "normal" in the 6' bed of an S-10 with a few inches to spare. I just don't see it happening sideways in a fullsize. Rent a u-haul trailer for a day if you need to. 4x7 utility trailer is $15 for 1 day. You can just barely buy HF magnetic lights for $15 and I can't think of a single body repair you can perform to a vehicle correctly, or traffic ticket, that is going to cost $15.
