Default Hello from Central Virginia

Hello all. I am just getting into the Cub adventure.

As a young boy, I remember my grandfather having a Cub. I am not sure of the model, but I remember it from the mid seventies. It was what I learned to drive on, and what I learned to mow grass with. I remember keeping a small log chain in the tool box under the seat of "my" tractor and pulling all sorts of things with it. Lots of good memories there.

Last week I was able to pick up a 104 that is in pretty great condition as a working tractor. Mowing the grass with it for the first time brought back a lot of memories as indicated above.

The 104 has some minor issues that will need to be addressed, so I am sure that I will be asking questions of you guys as I get into it. The first order of business will be to get a manual for it. I didn't see a link for that particular model in the tech section, so I will be ordering on soon. The guy that I bought it from had a manual for the tractor and one for the deck that he sent with the purchase, but it is the wrong manual. It looks to be for an O.

Looking at the pictures and posts on here make me want to keep scouring CL to see what else I can find.

I will get a few pictures of the 104 over the weekend and maybe post them. Also, there is a picture of me on my grandfather's from many years ago that I am hoping to dig up. If I can find it, I hope that the angle will show the model. I am thinking that it is mostly from behind the tractor though.

Anyway, I am Bob and I am from Appomattox. Glad to be here and looking forward to lots of great discussion in the future.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
