149 woes
I just got my 149 back together after a catastrophic bolt breakage on the hydro. I ended up replacing the driveshaft, the coupler on the rear of the motor, the rag-joint and various other bits and pieces.
One problem I'm having is the pin the goes in the driveshaft at the motor. While I was mowing today, it fell out three times. Luckily I found it each time. Now, this is the correct pin that I had to hammer in. I don't understand why it won't stay put. Any hints or ideas to making it stay? The other problem I'm having is more motor related. I can open the motor wide open and engage the blades. As soon as I start rolling and mowing, the motor loses rpm's. It doesn't feel like the motor is being lugged or bogged down, just that it simply loses rpm's. I readjusted the carb per the manual procedure w/out much improvement. Could this be a symptom of compression loss? Caked up valves? Headgasket? Points? Sorry for being so long winded. Thanks, Ian
