So it has come time to replace my Cub Cadet 2165. I bought it used from a guy several years ago and it has been a good tractor but its at a point where I keep having minor problems that Im tired of working on. That's to be expected from a 17 year old tractor though. Latest issue is a head problem. I replaced the head gaskets last season and was able to finish the mowing season but the same problem is coming back so I assume I have a warped head or something. I dunno. I know Im done with it though.
So, I have a budget of about $2000 and Im not buying used. I want a warranty. I don't have a need to pull any implements or push any snow. I just need it to cut grass well and maybe pull a wagon around to clean up yard waste and what not on occasion. I mow about 2 acres so I prefer at least a 48" cut. Ive kind of narrowed my search down to 2 possibilities. The new Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro Series. I can get the 23 horse, 50" cut for right at $2000. The Kohler engine makes me a bit nervous but Cub has a really good warranty. My second choice would be the Husqvarna YTH24V48. Is a 24 horse, 48" cut and also is right at $2000. It has a Briggs motor. Just reading online reviews, the Husky gets excellent reviews. The Cub looks very promising though and like I said, comes with a really good, if not the best warranty. So, opinions on both and also if there is something else I should be looking at, Id love to hear about it. Again, I have a $2000 budget and that's a fairly strict budget. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
