Briggs & Stratton Engines

Just wondering....have an 18hp single cylinder Briggs that is giving me issues. Has run perfect since I bought it new about 7 or 8 years ago and started acting up this year? It will run fine and then all of a sudden will start to spit and spudder and sometimes just shut down or sometimes will cough a bit and then keep running? If it does spit and die, I shove the clutch in and start it up again with no problem except it will back fire as it starts with a heck of a sounding backfire. So is this dirt in the gas/carb/fuel filter, or is there something electrical with it? It will do this if the mower is engaged or not. STRANGE!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
