Default cc 109 k241 new owner - need some help please!

Hi everyone, I picked up a Cub Cadet 109 with mower and tiller. She ran pretty decent, but just died on me the other day. I scanned the archives and thanks to your good posts, I got it running again. I put in a new coil, and the condenser and points are waiting for me at NAPA.

Heres my questions and issues:
- runs decent driving around, but under load (really long grass) she is bogging down, and I need to stop the mower to get it rev up, then repeat. I have played with the carb settings and I am checking the gas flow and changing the filter today.
I am hoping the new points and proper gap will help this? Do I have the mover drive belt too tight? Thoughts?

- she blows smoke from the crankcase vent (I hope its the crankcase vent) near the carb - there was no breather hose, should there be?

- If everything is working properly, does the 109 have enough power to cut tall grass (I am talking 2 ft high hay effectively - maybe I need goats instead) or am I asking too much from it?

Thanks for your help - Great forum!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
