New in NY

Hello to everyone. I am a 59 year old heavy truck mechanic for a large utility in the Elmira NY area specializing in large diesel engines. I recently acquired a 1984 782D Cub from my wife's uncle's estate. He had a 400 acre farm and the Cub was his around the house mower that was seldom used due to hard starting. It shows just 692 hours on the meter. After finding this fantastic website with all the knowledge here, and learning a little about these great little tractors, I'm hooked! What was brought home as a novelty, the 782D is now in the process of a full blown restoration and I'm looking for more diesel Cubs. These are cool! I'm Stan and my CB radio handle from long ago was Diesel Doctor so that's now my screen name! I look forward to "meeting" you all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
