For the smokers

I appreciate the comments on this thread and people being transparent; you don't see that very often any more these days. And to think no one has said "its somebody else's fault."

My wife is a respiratory therapist at our local trauma center. When you can't breathe, have to be on oxygen, or come back from a surgery and your lungs do not function the way they are supposed to, she is the one that will be there to help you survive. In the 15 years we have been together, I have heard countless horror stories about men and women, the comments they make, their regrets, their pain, their financial burden, and family issues because of it. I can honestly say, there has not been a single time she has told me any of her patients have said they were glad they did it and would keep doing it. Every single person has said they regret even starting; you know that line "if I only knew then what I know now." But I get it, its tough to break the habit and I will be the last person to judge. Although it does make me scratch my head when here of people "blowing themselves up" as they were smoking while wearing their oxygen mask (our neighbor who burnt his house down in the process). But that shows how strong of a pull it has. It has to be willpower more than anything. Its a knock down, drag out fight and I wish anyone who deals with this the best of luck. Stay at it and keep fighting.
