i bought a 3184 with 300 hrs for $400 a few weeks ago. the guy said the hydro pump had went out, turns out it was a stripped hub. its an 18hp kohler with no other options than hyd deck lift and had the aluminum rear axle. i actually bought it to repower a walker zero turn that i have, but after i found the cheap fix i decided to keep it all together and use it. so at this point im still needing a horizontal kohler for the walker.
so yesterday i found a 3235 with 800 hrs and ended up giving $200 for it. guy said it just needed a fuel pump, but i havnt had a chance to mess w it to see. its the 25hp with cast iron axle, diff lock, 54" deck, etc. the tractor is faded badly looks like it has sat in the sun its whole life. but it has all of the goodies. thinkn maybe if the 3235 cranks up and runs and nothing else is wrong w it mechanically, maybe take the nicer parts off of it and swap them to the nicer lookin 3184 that the frames paint still looks good n shiny? then use the 18hp to repower the walker and part out the rest of the cubs parts and peices that arent used? or rebuild both cubs and find another engine to repower my walker? i originally bought the first cub just for the engine but ive started taking a liking to these things haha |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
