Well, 2 1/2 months later, we are back to working on just the Cadet. Took a side journey into the wonderful world of Kohler Magnums:

To sum it up, it got a valve job, new pistons and rings, faced heads, new coil, new fuel pump, crank seals, air filter, plugs, and the carb off of a KT-17 series 2 (adjustable jet). Oh yeah, $4.98 worth of paint. Today we put the hood/grill/side shields on. Dug through my stash and found some self tapping hex head (3/8, not 7/16) self tapping screws to used in the place of the giant self tapping sheet metal screws someone had put the tunnel cover on with. Took the Cadet riding for about a 1/2 mile. Wow, that easy steering and those loaded ags make for some "interesting" handling. I will say with those tires, you can get into trouble--gonna have to learn to respect them. We've never had a mower with anything other than factory turfs--no weights, chains or fluid. Next up is the mule drive. Thought it was going to be easy, but the pulleys are pretty well pitted--may eat belts. So I pulled the mule drive off my burnt 1810 (it survived the fire well, other than being wrapped up in remnants of molten fuel tank). Plan is to take the 2 and build the best unit possible. I think I have enough paint in the can to attempt to change the color to something that matches the deck. Got to finish repairing the trash screen that goes underneath the machine. I don't want to jinx anything, but I will say we are quickly running out of parts to bolt back on--and I am somehow gaining floor space in the shop.
