Is there any point in keeping the compression gauge I just bought to use on my K301?

From what I've read, you can't accurately gauge compression anyway due to the ACR. I don't have the means to either spin the engine backwards or do the "leak down' test, and so it would seem the gauge is basically worthless? If I really can't use it I'll return it to the auto parts store. Have not even taken it out of the plastic wrapping yet.
