I bought my first riding lawnmower, used, about 6 years ago. It was a CubCadet 1020 with a Briggs & Stratton 10hp engine with a small 32" deck.
It wasnt the prettiest, but it ran...for a while. I paid $150 for it from a coworker. Within 2 months the engine broke a rod. I tore it apart and rebuilt it. Wasnt too hard. Its been a good mower, but now after buying a house with a larger yard, it seems it keeps wanting to have issues. Its not running right, mostly when u engage the blades. I think its got a governer issue. It also needs more tlc. I haven't been able to mow with it for a few months now. My inlaws gave me their old Simplicty mower with a 38" deck and a 12.5hp engine. But its tranny or clutch is shot and sucks to change gears. Ive had enough dealing with these old handme-down mowers. I decided i deserve a brand new one. I hitched up my enclosed trailer and drove 1 hour to HomeDepot and bought the XT1 LT46. So happy with it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
