Fuel gauge float question
The last couple of years I have noticed my fuel gauge floats no longer "float"
I have the gauge-in-cap type in my 1650 and both of my 782's gas tanks None of the floats actually float anymore rendering the gauges useless/inoperative. I have replaced 2 of the cap/gauge assemblies a few years ago with new ones from ebay. Initially they worked well for a time, then noticed last year they just sink in the gas. I removed the actual float and put them in a container of 10% ethanol gasoline that we have today. after a few hours they no longer float. it is as if the specific gravity of the fuel has changed and the float material no longer is light enough to stay on top of the fuel. It is no big deal but was wondering if it is just cheaply made floats from off shore vendors or something has changed with the fuel composition? I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this situation?
