149 wiring

Trying to trace wiring on my friends Jerry Rigged 149 that he bought. When the battery wire is connected to the bat terminal on the voltage regulator & to the negative terminal of amp meter, Should there be 12 volts on the Gen. and/or field connections on regulator with those wires not connected to the terminals? Have a great color coded wiring diagram but there is little color on wiring in tractor. I believe I can do this with a little help every now and then.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
