I got the new front axle installed. It was a bit challenging to get the old fractured axle out when the front of the tractor was collapsed to the ground. Of course this was made worse as the failure took place at the edge of the road ditch.
I used the three point hitch on my John Deere 2025R to raise the front end but that made it difficult to remove front quick attach mower bracket. I eventually was able to catch enough of the front frame and still allow the bracket to come free. Getting the pivot bolt free was actually pretty easy and I was able to lift the new axle in to place with the help of a hydraulic jack. From there the project move rather quickly. I think replacing the axle in my garage with the mower and quick attach bracket removed would be a pretty easy task. So it's done and it steers just fine so I am pretty happy. It was getting late and darkness was approaching so I deferred attaching the bracket and mower to a later date.
