Honda GTX390 into a 149?
Thinking ahead to winter projects and one of them is to split the 149 and go through the hydro and do some structural work on the rear of the frame. I'd also like to go over the front end and try to eliminate as many rattles as possible. I will likely pull the motor and do some work on the pan and do the valve guides that didn't get done during rebuild.
I've been looking around for small engines for a couple of other projects and have come across a few (real) Hondas There is a GT 390 close to me for a decent price. This unit is a single cylinder rated at 11.7 HP. I don't have a PTO on the front as I changed that to a direct coupled hydraulic pump for the FEL. The tractor is used mainly with the loader. But I have a self propelled tiller, a 10" Brinley plow and a sleeve hitch mounted, single row disc with eight big blades. Now the Kohler claims 14 HP. So the question is, would the newer HOV, electronic ignition engine 11.7 Honda do the work that the K321 does. I have machining and fabbing equipment, so that's not a big obstacle. Note: Title should say GT 390, not GTX.
