Do yourself a favor and drill & tap them. If you have a joint that won't take grease, you will end up pushing the fitting out with the drive type. At that point 90% of people simply don't bother to even grease it until it wears out.

There are some drive in grease fittings with a considerable taper on the end. Those don't tend to stay in near as well as the straight ones. In the late '80s Cadet was using the tapered kind with no luck. I was working part time at a dealership, one of my duties was to assemble new equipment. We made it a habit to grease every new mower. On the 1015, 1315, 1320 etc. there would be at least one to pull out when you took the grease gun off. We would replace them with straight ones from IH. Finally the store owner belly-ached to the Cadet rep and even gave him the Case-IH part number. Eventually someone at Cadet wised up and used a different fitting or reduced the hole size.

So is it a case-IH part number to get the fittings? They are roughly 3/16 in diameter. and its a very tight fit. Or would tapping it be the best way to go, regardless?

So, i bought the tractor off the original owner! he didn't have the papers, but a 70 year old gentleman saying i bought this in 1962, i kinda believe him ya know? He also said it hadn't run in nearly 35 years, but it was always inside so it was in good shape. we made the exchange, loaded it up, and away i went! Once home, took the air cleaner off, put a bit of gas in her, gave her some juice, and she fired right up first try, no choke! i was amazed. I then preceded to ride this beauty to all my neighbors who have similar interests to show off

Once the joyride was over, disassembly began. in 2 hours, i nearly had the entire machine apart. the only pieces i am unsure of disassembling is the clutch assembly, as well as getting the clutch pedal off the tractor.

pics will follow tonight once i am home from work! Then you will all see how this man barbarically welded some 90 deg angle iron for foot rests on the frame because he lost the posts for the foot rests to slide over!

good day everyone!

I would think you should be able to pick them up most anywhere, I was just rambling about a Cadet tale and offering a suggestion on which style to use. Any decent parts store or tractor dealership should have replacements. Certainly nothing wrong with drilling and tapping the holes out either, sometimes you have to do that anyway if a new drive-in is too loose and won't stay. Looking forward to some pics!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
