Default Cub Cadet 2082 engine question.

I recently purchased a 2082 that had blown engine with idea of putting a mag 18 engine in it. There is a 22hp Kohler Command engine for sale on eBay that is in a Cub Cadet 2284. I'm not familiar with the super garden tractors and was wondering if this engine would work in the 2082. Any help would be appreciated.

If you can get the engine mount plate and drive shaft from the 2284 it will be a piece of cake. Otherwise you will have to drill some holes in the mount plate and adapt the drive shaft.

Edit: the pto is bigger on the command( MAG 4.5" pulley/ CH 6" pulley). The earlier M20s had a 1.25" crankshaft, the later had 1.125" like the commands.

I would look on Craig's list for a 2000 series being parted with a CH18 Command and purchase it for the engine. Much less money and usually way less hours. Over 1500 hours and $700 is not that great of deal IMO. The CH18 can be made a CH20 for no money and 10 minutes. It is not uncommon to find a 2000 series with a bad mower deck for around $200

I went ahead and got the 2284 as it was listed for $1000. Hope that was a good deal for a 2284 with 1500 hours. Thanks for your advice it was much appreciated. Larry

Thanks for your help. I went ahead and bought the 2284 for $1000 as it had 60" mower deck, new seat and rear wheel weights. Hope I got a good deal. Larry

Good luck with your project. I know what 2284 you are talking about, it looked a bit rough but could just be the pics. Got any to share?

Just my 2 cents but I'd fix up the 2284 before the 2082. Post some pics of both so we can see what your working with. No matter what you can swap most parts from one to the other and end up with one nice machine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
