Eleven point...Welcome. Sorry 'bout that. The impulse was to strong to resist...On IH decks, the first two digits always tell you the cutting width of the deck.

Default 48"-42"=?

Thats what I thought, but these two decks are the same width and the so-called 42 is not the same depth as the "48",when you look at it from the side there is a app. 6 " difference. The "48" is off of a 126 that was built in 1969, the "42" is off a 104 that is also built in 1969. Must be very rare.

Hi ElevenPoint..

Many folks get fooled by the deck shells...Some have exhaust chutes as part of the deck shell and some have them attached separately and some don't have any at all.
So, all measurements of decks are by the cutting width. A 38" 42"or 48 " deck options were offered to Cub Cadet buyers during that period. Neither are rare. Just different size.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
