I'd drain the fluid and see if it looks like water in it like sam said. may have partially plugged the filter up so the pump sucked it dry moving it earlier. let it sit and it filled back up.

Changed the fluid and filter yesterday. From the looks of what oozed out of the drain the old fluid was a lot more contaminated than I could tell from what was on the dipstick.

After the change the lift and steering is functioning 100% better than it was before.

I should probably change that more often.

Thanks a lot for the help.

If it had that much goo in it, I'd suggest changing it again after a few uses. You really should take the rear cover off and flush it out next time. If you change it every 5 years or 200 hours, you should be good. Just depends on how many hours a year you run.

I was thinking the same thing. I did let it drain for quite a while with the rear end 15-16 inches off the ground. But letting some fresh fluid circulate might flush out more garbage.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
