Cc 1812 hydro help
Hey guys it’s been a while since I posted but here’s my problem.
I had to replace the hydro pump shaft in the hydro pump. I used the shaft out of a 682. I didn’t mark the charge pump for orientation and on the 2 valve plates I gave one with 2 notches one with no notches. And on the other pump I have one with 2 notches and one with no notches. I got them mixed up and I put the one with 4 on the motor side and the one with 2 on the pump side. Filled with fluid Hooked everything up cranked the engine. Pump turns but no pressure. I suppose I need to rotate the charge pump 180 degrees. Would that make a difference? And do I have the valve plates in the right place?

I got a little confused there I have one valve plate with 2 notches one with no notches the other plate is 2notches and one with 4 notches. Also the reason for replacing the shaft: The end of the shaft broke because when I put a new one in a couple years ago I had to drill it out with a bigger pin. So it walleyed out a little and broke.

Too late now, but the first rule of repairing things unfamiliar is mark/take pictures, lotsa pictures and look for witness marks like stains, wear marks ect. guessing usually gets you lost. If you not only mixed up the valve plates, but flipped them over, all bets are off as your chances of getting them right are slim to none. Best to look for a used pump on the internet, they usually go for $100 or so. |

If after you turn the charge pump 180 it still doesn't PM me, I have a complete pump and rear out of an 1862.

Two notches is a pump plate. Four notches is a motor plate. On rare occasion a pump or motor may have holes instead of notches. Never no notches, as that would make the unit hammer and vibrate.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. After I rotated the charge pump it’s working. Except I’m going to have to replace the lip seal on the back of the pump where the shaft sticks out. But the main thing is it’s fixed. Or working. I’ve never been into a hydro pump before so I was lacking some confidence in my ability. Once again thanks for the help.
Now another project but I’ll start a new thread for that.

I got in all my seals finally. Took the pump back off and took it apart. Replaced the lip seals front and back. After putting it back together the lip seal opposite of the linkage side, the lip seal holding the pump piston was leaking. So I’ve took it back apart and robbed one out of another pump that I have out of the 682. Just have put everything back in place and bolted up. All is left is filling her full of fluid and see if she leaks. Cross your fingers!

All is back together now. The lip seal on the hydro pump opposite hydro controls still has a very small leak. Also the the transmission controls neee some shimming up and adjustment. But other than that it’s working fine. I’m going to order 2 new lip seals and the spring assembly for the controls. It’s kinda loose and I’m sure it’s worn out.

If you didn't know, 3 out of 4 seals on the hydro can be changed from the outside without disassembly of the hydro.
The only one requiring disassembly is the one behind the trunion |
