Cub Cadet Zero Turn RZT50 26HP Briggs & Stratton
Its a Briggs and Stratton Intek Motor and it having idle issues in that for the first 10 minutes of mowing the motor speed sounds fine with the throttle control lever in the mowing position with and with out the blades engaged but after 10 minutes of mowing I turn the blades off and the motor is now running at a much higher RPM with the throttle control lever in the mowing position. It's overreving and if you back off the throttle control lever to the slowest position the motor is still running at a faster speed than it should be instead of very slow speed. I've done some internet searches but no luck yet.

Sounds like you have a governor issue. Maybe it is out of adjustment because of a weak spring? How many hours?

Cub cadet RX50
I'll check the hours when I get home. Would it make sense to replace the springs and then do the adjustment or just try doing the adjustment first? I found a video which seems to explain the procedure.

Hours on mower
I checked the hours on the mower and its only 355 which seems low for what I believe is a 2010. Anyway, should I try the governor adjustment or replace the springs and then do it?
i've tried to find the service manual but no luck so far. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
