I'm amazed at how little work is required sometimes to keep these 50+ year old machines humming along. A testament to their build quality and often the dedicated care of their owners. And it's usually very obvious when its a "labor of love".
Definitely the case here. And with so many to love too!! |

Parts!, Parts!, Parts!
I replaced the hub on the engine side of the driveshaft when the engine was rebuilt. I used a spirol pin instead of the solid pin. The pin lasted for almost 8 yrs without damaging the slot on the hub. I bought a solid pin but may use the spirol instead. BTW, the hood hinges on both 149s are worn out....so they will get new ones.

Completed updates and repairs. Mower deck cuts evenly and nicely. I added a 3/8 piece onto the outer lift arm to increase the lift height of mid and front attachments. So far, so good. Also completed regular service too. Now, onto the next project....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
