BS. I've not had trouble getting the plow to go in with the coulter on and no weight, although it would help in something like a rock-hard no-till northern IL field.

You have something bad wrong with your setup if you can't get your plow in the ground without weights. Weights are not needed.

You dont need any weight on the plow if it's set up right. The plow should pull itself into the ground. If you have virgin soil or clay soil maybe. But at Riverside you dont need weight on the plow. I plow with a 70 and 10 inch plow with no problems of getting the plow set in the ground. You dont even need front weight.

Just wanted to give an update on my plowing education. (You saw the results of my first pitiful attempt) Made some adjustments, and wow - too much fun! I was so impressed by the way that old 14 HP Kohler tore through the sod.
