Haban 402 sickle mower questions

Looks like alum to me. Wouldn't want to weld it. Wouldn't even want to try to put a steel sleeve over it. I'd find a new one, steel or alum. Or have one made. I don't know how large the dia is but I did make one once that went on a 382 Cadet transmission. Cost of matl would be the only drawback to making one.

I wouldn't fix it for myself let alone somebody else. It cracked directly in line with the keyway.

IF it were to be welded, it would most likely shrink both the bore and the keyway requiring machining. It would be cheaper and safer to purchase a new pulley.

I think using an aluminum pulley in this application is a bad idea to begin with. There is just too much vibration and shock for alum to to hold up.

My sickle isn't here so I can't look, but I believe all of the pulleys are the heavy stamped sheet metal ones.

where would i be able to find one? i havent taken it off to take measurements yet but something like this do i have to find something on ebay or is it just kind of a standard pulley?

Lots of options with pulleys. Not familiar with the Haban sickles, is it possible new ones are available from them or Cadet? Otherwise start looking at Mcmaster Carr, Motion Industries, or anyone that sells power transmission stuff. There is a line of make your own pulleys and sprockets available, I know Shoup Manufacturing sells them, also think I have seen them at Tractor Supply. Also, you can possibly get a pulley with a blank bore and then get a machine shop to bore it, install a key and setscrew. To me your next step is to get the bore and key size, pulley OD and the amount of hub offset and overall hub length. You may not be able to get exact pulley dia, but I expect you can come close.

Word of caution if you buy a pulley with a machinable bore, not every machine shop has pulley taps or tap extensions so that they can install the tapped hole. You need to talk to who would do the machine work or this could get real expensive real quick.

I'm pretty sure that isn't a factory pulley and therefore I don't know if it would be exactly like the one that should be there.

Finding out the spec's of the original would be my first priority, then go on a hunt for it.

I don't know that you will be able to find it at your local hardware store, but it shouldn't be too hard to come up with.

McMaster Carr may have what you need and I would guess a thousand other places on the net as well. Might even find one at Surplus Center for much less than other places.

I just measured the pulley on my Haban Sickle. It's stamped steel. The outside diameter is 6 1/8".
So you need a 6 inch stamped steel pulley.
