Not for its condition but it's color.
Sad to say but if it was IH built it would be worth more.
Agreed, 3 pt and rear pto are $$$$ though.

Wow, that is in nice shape. Looks like it has the CI rear but it is yellow, not that it matters to me. Looking at the top link, I believe that is an OEM cat 0 hitch + the Model number shows that it was built in 1983 (143), has rear pto, cat 0 hitch and front ports(986) and is yellow(100). That is how you break down the model number (143986100) I would love to add a yellow 982 to my collection because you don't see many of them. Good thing you are far away.

I'm thinking clean it up, put all the panels on it and list it for $2500. Rear lift and pto are worth $1000.

I disagree, the yellow 982's or in this case a 986, is far more rare.

I am not greedy...I will sell it to you for less than that, and meet you somewhere in between upstate NY and Georgia. I'll throw it in the trailer alongside my bike, meet you down where the roads get twisty, and we can both go home smiling

No, I am not kidding...

I don't really know if I would give more for a rare one.
Would you give any more for a 126 than a 125?
We talk about it here but I don't think rarity translates into dollars.
Parts from rare ones bring more like a 169 air cleaner ect
This is just my opinion here

Rarity does usually mean dollars.... maybe not to you, but it seems to translate that way. Would I pay more for a 126, or a yellow 982? Not likely. Would I ask more if I was the seller.... maybe for a 126, but that's just because they seems to be getting more rare. Pullers seem to have gobbled up a lot of them. Just for argumentative purposes, I don't think the SGT's are worth what most pay, or sell them for. In my mind, an SGT is a $1500 tractor. I don't care what the parts on it are worth, I don't care that it's cool, I don't care that they are hard to find, I don't care what they sold for new. The simple fact is 90% of the guys who buy an SGT with a rear PTO and 3pt just want it because it's cool and never put anything on them. You can go get a much larger tractor for just a little more than $2k. Most all the Cub Lo-Boys go for about the same price, and are much more usable than the SGT's as far as the 3pt is concerned, and you can get a 284 IH tractor for $2500 to $4500 depending on condition, and it's twice the size of a Lo-Boy. I've seen 656 gear drive row crops go for as low as $3K in good shape. So.... why would I pay $2500 for an overgrown lawn mower that they don't even make attachments for, and the ones out there are out of this world on price? Those little bush hog mowers that we see now and again sell for more than I can buy a 5' or even a 6' mower for...... Sorry for the rant, but I just think that the whole SGT tractors and their attachments are out of line on price. But, look at Deere. A 400 seldom ever goes for less than $2500 and most go between 3 and $4K. Again, no thank you.

Just my two bits that aren't worth

LOL. Not likely. I have most of an SGT, but if I were to get a complete one, it would have to be cheap. No offense to you at all, and I'm sorry I rant'd on your thread. I just don't see why the SGT's seem to go for 3 and 4 times what a GT with the same HP engine in it goes for. It's not 3 or 4 times bigger, or more useful. Dang it, there I go again.

I'm done.

Wasn't there one of the regular posters on the forum down around Georgia that has been trying to find a 982 for a while now? If somebody can remember who it is and maybe PM him with a heads up about this thread.

I never realized they made yellow 982 Cadets! Personally I like it. That said, I live on a farm so we have full size tractors which means I don't have need of rear PTO's and 3pt hitch nor do I need turning brakes on a lawn mower. But I do love my 2 Supers! Dad mowed his yard with the 982 today. You'd think at 86 he'd chose the 2072 due to power steering. If I didn't have other tractors, my opinion about options would probably change!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
