Made it home safe!
I went to Merk's house today to meet him and his wife! I asked Merk to help me out with the 72 project. I feel it was worth the drive, about 230 miles one way. He is a real nice guy! Well, it snowed all the way down and back! But the Ford went right on through it all. About 4 car wrecks too along the way. Back home it's snowing more yet. The way home was between I 271 and I 77 where this pic. was taken. Thanks, johncub7172

This is what I started with
First thing I removed was the PTO clutch and starter pulley. Sorry forgot to take pictures. Next thing I removed is the flywheel. Something didn't look right on the flywheel end: I'm used to a stud/nut set up than a bolt set up. I used a harmonic balancer puller tool to remove the flywheel. [ Flywheel pulled Here is what the crankshaft looks like with the flywheel removed: Removed the head...take note of the old style Auto Lite sparkplug: Cylinder wall looks good Oil pan is next to be removed Bottom of the pan didn't have anything unusual in it |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
