Hey all,
Finally getting around to working on a 107 I picked up a while back. Didn't really need the tractor but wanted the tiller on it and the PO wouldn't separate them. Anyhoo, I was told it ran when i picked it up but was also told it smoked badly. I've replaced the head gasket, De-carbonized and flattened the head. Checked the piston and valves, she was bored out already but looked decent. Re wired the entire thing, rebuilt the carb, new points and condenser. She fires and runs really rough, it seems as though I don't have enough adjustment in the points. She knocks pretty good until i close the gap to the point where they barely open. The static timing method from Matt G. was pretty much how I got it running just can't get it smoothed out. I don't have a lot of experience with single cylinder breaker point engines. Any pointers or other things to check before i tear this engine down? Here's some pictures just cause everyone likes pictures. You can see the haze from the 107 sputtering along..

jkier try replacing the point push pin. I had the same problem with a 102 that I used to own. I didn't have enough adjustment in the points. Put in the new pin and problem was solved.

If anyone's interested Kohler's part # 47 411 04-S Point Rod
Measures 1.552" with a decent pair of dial calipers Interestingly my Cub dealer informed me the old rods were part aluminum and part steel and would mushroom on one end causing this timing problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that's whats happened

Maybe if you cant pull the pushpin out by hand there is a problem? My k161 pulled out by hand fine, but my k241 I could not. But I didnot have the same problem with the k241 as you have. thanks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
