Went to NAPA this morning and got some Autolite plugs, oil, oil filter, ordered an air filter, points and condenser.
I got back home and decided to start removing the side panes and fender pan and tunnel cover and see what was good and what needed repaired. All in all it was in great condition, just really dirty. The rag joints looked almost like new. The fan had all of it's blades. The drive shaft was tight and had no movement. As you will see the Hydro unit was filthy, you couldn't even see the cooling fins. I also noticed a PO mod done. The brake safety switch was in non working condition. I would show a pic of it, but we don't want to encourage others to do unsafe things. But anyway it is fixed now and works. As I got to cleaning on the transmission end, I noticed the hydro filter was grey. That kind of made me worry. Finally I got it cleaned off enough to read it. "Oil Filter" !! Oh well, back to NAPA for the correct filter and then went and picked up two gallons of fluid. I figure since I am this far I will also do Sam Mac's transmission vent mod too. I will get to that tomorrow or Thur. The rear fluid was clean, but was kind of green looking. There was a bit of crud on the bottom of the housing, but was easy to clean out. I also got the fender pan cleaned up and the side engine covers cleaned up. Will try and get them polished up tomorrow also. Here are a few pics from today. I will have more over the next couple of days: ![]() Dirty!!! ![]() ![]() Nice rag joints: ![]() No Trunion wear at all ![]() Wonder if the Walbro is the culprit for these blackened plugs??? ![]() More Dirt: ![]() ![]() What's wrong with this picture being it came from the transmission? ![]() Amazing what kerosene and water can do!! ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
