Default Cub Cadet 2284 does not want to run
Hello Cub Cadet mechanics. I have a 2284 Super with a Kohler Ch 22 Command engine that I'm having a problem of keeping it running when the engine gets hot. Also, at times it does not want to start when it has been sitting for a few days. Yesterday it started right up and ran great for about 20 minutes then it seemed to lose lots of power and only way I could keep it running was to turn the mower deck off and to pull the choke out. I have replaced the fuel pump and that has not seemed to make any difference. I'm pretty sure it is a fuel issue because when it does not want to start I have good spark at the spark plugs. Any suggestions as to what my problem might be. Thanks for any help.

Plan on servicing the fuel system from the tank to the carb. Also plan on cleaning the carb out. Only other thing I can think of is the spark advance module AKA SAM.

Thanks Sam. I have only had this tractor for about 6 months and I'm not familiar with the Ch22 Command engines. I pulled the carburetor and it looked really clean from the outside. On the back side of the carb was an electric connection to a device bolted to the carburetor. Not sure what that is used for. I have also replaced the fuel filter. Is there something that needs attention inside the fuel tank?

The thing with the wire on the carb is the fuel shut down solenoid. It needs power in order to run. Here is a link to what I did on the 2284 I had.

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on what the problem is. I've done a bunch of the Cyclops tractors over the last couple years so now I pretty much have a routine. I start by pulling the fender pan and fuel tank. Then I pressure wash the whole thing. Fuel tank gets cleaned inside and out. Tank bushings get replaced, fuel shut off valves get cleaned or replaced. All new fuel lines and filter. I pull the engines and remove the blower housing in order to clean the cooling fins and inspect for oil leaks. Carbs get disassembled and cleaned then rebuilt. While the engine is out I re-pack the CV joints in the drive shaft and the steering column. If you see signs of leaking on the rear now is the time to deal with it. I also install a set of rear end braces. Yeah it sounds like a lot of work but when your done you will have a tractor that will be good for another 10-20 years for less than 1/2 the price of a new XT3. Hey Golf and Sam -

Curious which fix helped or was it several things? I've seen Sam's Cyclops threads over the years. my 2284 acts flakey and is on the list to work on later this summer.
