Engine miss, 1811
What does this mean?
My 1811 is missing on one of the cylinders. Pulled the plugs and a whiteish powder on the right side, where the left side is more black (just realized I have two pics of the right side and none on the left side, will fix that) Seems to be getting fuel (to the carb at least). Seems to be getting spark to both sides. (Oh, the Autolite 26 is what I put back in it, maybe not exactly right but at the moment seems bigger issues to resolve) |

Where you able to pull the plug while it was running (carefully) to see which one was not firing? This engine has one ignition module so I do not know if it goes bad if one could still fire. I would get the correct plugs, that would rule out the plugs.

Pics of both plugs. Busy today, so additional eval is going to have to wait until tomorrow.

looks like 1 cylinder is rich, and the other lean. use a inline spark tester to verify which cylinder is firing or not. check compression as well, might be a valve/carbon issue

Maybe a vacuum leak on one side of the intake manifold?

Does the 1811 engine use waste spark ignition (firing both plus at the same time - during compression and exhaust stokes?) If so, the current path for a plug firing on compression also involves a plug firing on the exhaust stroke of the opposite cylinder. I had an onan that used this and disabling one plug disables the other plug at the same time so it won't run. A bad plug wire on one cylinder can effect the other cylinder as well.

I agree, one cylinder is lean and the other is not. Could be both cylinders are lean and one plug isn't firing good. Check the inside of the plug boots. Seen several times where the end is corroded in the boot that goes on the plug causing it not to fire. If you see nothing, and sure you have good spark, I'd do a compression test. Could be a vac leak in the manifold as Sam suggested, but I haven't seen that as often as the other two issues pop up. (No spark or one cylinder with low compression.) Could be a lot of things..... Your going to have to do a little more |

Hmm. I will revist spark. Wonder if the wasted spark tricked me into thinking I had spark in both sides. I just need to work through this more methodically
Some great suggestions here that I would have never thought of. Stay tuned for more in sorting through them |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
