My 782 (serial #715729) has a Kohler K17 Series II (serial #24302). While mowing earlier this year, the engine started to sputter and loose power. I turned the PTO off and limped it back to the garage, where it died.
With the switch in Start position, it has power to and from the coil, but no power at the spark plug wires. I used an in-line spark plug tester and circuit/continuity tester. When key is in starting position (activating starter), no light in tester handle via plug wires. I'm thinking dead coil?

Did you check the points and condenser?

Didn't. Will output from coil to plug wires only be achieved when the points contact?

Well.... yes. The points are what makes the coil fire.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
