149 Vibrates
A few years ago I bought a non running 149 pretty cheap at an auction. Didn't take a lot to get it running but it vibrated. I removed the balance gears and it still vibrates. Seems to be much worse than prior 1200s I have owned . I also have a 1972 Economy Power King with a 14 hp Kohler, which is much smoother. Is that common to a 149? I do like the hydrostat, I added a foot pedal and also like the hyd lift. Would I be ahead to rebuild a 12 hp for it? Thanks Gary

I don't know my 149 runs as smooth as any 10 or 12hp kohler I have ever had. Maybe at some point in the engines life it was taken apart prior to you owning it and a different crank was installed causing the out of balance situation.

I've had 2 k301s, still have one, that did/do the same thing. Isolated it to the engine on both but no idea why, both solid mount engines. Running them at high rpms makes the seat vibrate to a point where you need to have a break from it because it almost makes it unbearable. Only things I can think of is crank to rod tolerance just bad enough to cause an issue, starter pulley off just enough, Not sure but it's pretty annoying and different than the regular vibration you get out of one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
