Default New from CT

Hey all. I just joined yesterday but have been using this site for reference for a couple of years. Some good info here and hopefully someday I will contribute some of my own content. I got my first cub about 5 years ago from some guy that just rolled it out of his garage to make space. He wanted $40 for it to get back the money he put into a magneto. I bought it brought it home, gapped the magneto and that was all it needed. Using it ever since 4 seasons a year. That machine is an MTD Cub 1050 from 1989 but it was still made to IH specs. Last year a friend of mine in Upstate NY gave me a neglected 149 so that I could rebuild the motor for the experience and to have a spare on the shelf just in case. Well... I got carried away and now have a pristine rebuilt garden tractor that is almost too nice to use. No bolt left untouched. Motor bored, crank ground, new valves, piston seals, gaskets everything. Finished that project about a month ago and got bored so I found another machine, a 1450 to play around with so there is more to come... I hear you like pictures so I attached a few.

The previous owner had a sickle bar mower on it. I was going to grind off the bracket but you never know what you may want to add in the future. He had a pulley mounted on the side near the hydraulic lift cylinder but that was just a bolt on and not welded. Good Eye!

Nice collection there! I joined up around this time last year, but haven't been very active. Working a lot and doing motorcycle stuff during the good weather. That winds down, the tractor business spools up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
