Default 1541 oil leak

What's involved to replace the front oil seal on the Kohler engine on a CC 1541?
I took off my mower deck, and installed the snowblower this afternoon.
I Checked the oil, and the dipstick was dry. Took about 1/2 quart of oil to bring it 1/2 way between the "add" and "full" marks. I only have 2 hrs on it since my last oil change a couple months ago. (mowed the lawn once after changing oil) I found a wet spot on the dirt floor of my garage, under the front of the tractor, and found the front of the engine is wet with oil, behind the PTO clutch.
Can the seal be replaced without taking the engine apart? Is the engine known to have the seal move forward, out of the case? I haven't removed the clutch to see exactly what's going on yet.

A few of the guys in here have had front or rear or both seals leaking on those twins and have been able to fix them. I haven't had to do that so I will let them with experience speak up. Just wanted to let you know it's not a huge problem.

If your seal did in deed "PUSH OUT" I would check the crank case vent. I take it the engine runs fine otherwise? It will be interesting to know what you find! My brother had a mystery leak on a 1872 w/M18 after changing oil, leaked once and never again. I attributed it to over filling and causing a suction effect in the crankcase, like an improperly vented plumbing trap.

If it is a bad seal, it's not a big deal to change. You remove the pto and then screw a drywall screw into the seal itself and pull it out with a pair of pliers and then put a new one in. It's a common problem. You probably have a 1/4" or more of clearance behind the seal for the screw to protrude through it.

Removed everything to access the seal, and found it is leaking. The seal's outer face is just over 1/2" below the surface of the crankcase cover. I found the M18 service manual says it should be recessed 5/64".
What's the easiest way to pull the old seal out, so I can replace it?

New seal came in...got it replaced. I found the seal was loose in the crankcase cover, not leaking past the crankshaft. Once I got a hole punched in it, I screwed a drywall screw into it as suggested, and it slid right out with my fingers. The new seal was a tight fit in the cover.
